The surprises: upsets, flips against the district’s lean, outspent winners

The rules for what counts as a surprise were written down before polls closed. The race raters are the independent forecasters (Cook Political Report, Inside Elections, Sabato's Crystal Ball and others). Each row shows their middle call and links to the ratings table it comes from. Each result links to NBC News' results page for the race, and to a news report where the call was checked.

How this was built

Before polls closed on November 3, Civly listed every House, Senate and governor race: who held the seat, the candidates, the race raters’ calls, money raised, outside spending and TV orders. Each winner was then sorted against that list. Race calls come from network and AP projections as recorded on Wikipedia’s race pages at 7:12 AM EST on November 4, and the largest upsets were checked against news reports. Vote shares are from NBC News. Money raised and outside spending are from FEC filings, and TV orders from broadcast stations’ FCC public files.

Governor races have no money figures, because state campaign finance is not included. TV figures cover broadcast stations only.

Civly Politics

Money, results and voters in one place

Civly joins federal filings, TV orders and state voter files for every race.

Civly Politics Research · results as of 7:12 AM EST, November 4, 2026 (unofficial). Published November 4, 2026.

All computation is Civly’s. Any errors are ours. Results describe vote counts and spending and nothing about the conduct or fitness of any candidate.
